National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) is conducting research on building a database of strong-motion observation records as a common infrastructure and its use, such as seismic hazard assessment.
The ”Strong Ground Motion Flat File 2023 version” associates strong-motion indexes of K-NET and KiK-net records by the end of 2023 with source parameters from Japan Meteorological Agency and F-net, NIED, and site parameters from PS logging data, and the latest subsurface structures data from Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station, J-SHIS.
Information
- The source files (source_schema.tsv) for the 2023 and Preliminary version of the flat file were corrected, because there was an error in associating the momen tensor solutions from F-net with the JMA origin time for sources after 2022. (2024/09/20)

The flat file is a text file that describes records of the strong-motion database in TSV format. For detail, please see the flat file format definition document. The analysis tool for Strong ground motion flat file is a command line tool works on Linux to search and extract records in the flat files.
