Major participants of Japan-Taiwan Kickoff Workshop for PSHA around Ryukyu Trench

NIED and TEM held a workshop in March 7-9, 2023, in Tsukuba, Japan, as a kickoff to the collaboration toward improvement of PSHA around Ryukyu Trench area, as a part of a collaborative research on "PSHA in the island arc of Taiwan – Ryukyu", funded by Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association.

In the workshop, there were 14 talks in six sessions: Historical Earthquakes, Earthquake Catalogs, Subduction Interface, Strong-Motion Database and GMPE, Active Faults, and PSHA.

As Japan and Taiwan are located in the continuous tectonic setting and share similar situations in many aspects in seismic hazard assessment, the participants discussed on how to share, exchange and integrate the data and experiences on each topic. They concluded that continued collaboration is necessary to improve PSHA around Ryukyu area, near the boundary of Japan and Taiwan.
